At least those were my thoughts. Not that I’m complaining, it was still entertaining to see the three old men quarrel but I didn’t expect it to be so similar.
Any differing thoughts?

It’s not like they can completely reinvent themselves, plus they stuck with a formula that worked. I didn’t think the episode was great, but it was good, I feel like once they get some of those stupid things, like the killing the guest joke out of the way, it’s going to be incredible.

I enjoyed it but I’m a bit disappointed that it’s just Top Gear again. I was kinda hoping for something different. Well hopefully this gets current Top Gear to change up their formula dramatically.
Also I’ve come to the realisation that I hate studio segments and that they should really have their own podcast because the banter between them is what I want to hear not pandering to a live audience.

I really liked the beginning sequence and the camera work is as good as ever - but you are right, it is very similar. Maybe next show will have May putting a lawnmower back together. :)

Its more of the same - its like watching Top Gear with another title.
Cant say its bad... its not that good either. I think given more time... it will warm up to its audience.
cheers!

I wasn’t disappointed because overall it was still great. But like you said I was hoping for a little bit of reinvention as well. I would think that this opportunity with Amazon would have been great to try something new and different.

I agree it was a good episode. Hopefully things only get better from here.

I was really hoping the beginning sequence was going to be the style for The Grand Tour, so as to differentiate it from Top Gear. But I guess Top Gear was already a good format and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right?

I enjoyed it. The beginning was very well thought out, the banter and jokes were what we all enjoyed from before and the cinematography has gotten even better. The Isn’t Straight gave me a big smile. I think if they changed the format to something completely new then some would complain, by sticking to some of their old formula, they can tweak it and change it up for each country within reason. And just think, we have less than a week to wait for the next episode of Project Binky.

The thing is, the opening sequence was much better than the rest of the episode. I think, after seeing the opening sequence and thus expecting what follows to be similar to that, and then receiving another Top Gear episode is what made it the same. I was hoping for some reinvention or change, and not just killing off star in a reasonably priced car (hopefully).

A lot of it was derivative, but then you had to expect it to be ... I think we have to get used to the idea that it will never be Top Gear again. Fat NASCAR driver was not expected, but might work. Amazon should pay the money to get the Stig back and the original theme song.

I think at least I was hoping for some new non-derivative show. The opening sequence was great and really brought my hopes up but then it just turned into another Top Gear episode.

They should have ditched the live audience staged commentary bullshit.

I mean was anyone expecting any different? Basically what people were asking for was Top Gear with these guys and on top of it Jeremy Clarkson was one of the major forces behind creating the format of Top Gear.
